Wings Over Wascana Nature Festival 2010 May 6-8, 2010 Special Guest: Wayne Lynch
Dr. Lynch is a popular guest lecturer and an award-winning science writer. His books cover a wide range of subjects, including: the biology and behaviour of owls, penguins and northern bears; arctic, boreal and grassland ecology; and the lives of prairie birds and mountain wildlife. He is a fellow of the internationally recognized Explorers Club - a select group of scientists, eminent explorers and distinguished persons, noteworthy for their contributions to world knowledge and exploration. He is also an elected Fellow of the prestigious Arctic Institute of North America . He was elected in recognition of his contributions to the knowledge of polar and subpolar regions. The electing board applauded his diverse career as a naturalist, wildlife photographer and science writer. There will be raffles, a silent auction, and other surprises to raise funds for an outdoor classroom to be located in the Waterfowl Display Ponds. Ticket prices for the Fund Raising Dinner are $50.00/single, $40.00/student or $375.00 for a table of 8. ( Download banquet poster here ) May 7th - WOW Education Day Over 200 grades 4-6 students from Regina and surrounding area will explore Wascana Marsh to learn about wetlands and wildlife through a variety of nature awareness activities. These activities include bird watching, pond dipping, guided hikes, eco-games, field sketching and a special presentation from Wayne Lynch! Each participant will spend a fun day filled with hands-on and minds-on outdoor activities. These experiences will provide students numerous opportunities to discover, investigate, research and reflect throughout the day. Dress for the weather!
