Regina and Area City Nature Challenge

April 27, 2021

Want to spend a little time in nature this weekend?  Just download the iNaturalist app for free at www.iNaturalist.org

"In the face of the pandemic, finding ways to come together safely as a community may be challenging, but they’re also more important than ever. This year, Nature Regina, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, Friends of Wascana Marsh, Nature Saskatchewan and the Nature Conservancy of Canada are partnering to host a COVID-19 safe citizen science initiative, the City Nature Challenge, that takes place April 30th through May 3rd. The City Nature Challenge is an international collaboration organized by the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. From wide-open spaces with plenty of room for social distancing to the biodiversity in people’s backyards, there are tons of safe ways for people within the Regina area to document native plant and animal species for science while fostering a sense of local--and global--community.

How can you take part in the challenge? It’s easy! (1) Create a free account through iNaturalist.ca, (2) Record photos or sounds of plants and animals you see around the city April 30th through May 3rd, (3) upload your observations and locations using the iNaturalist app or digital camera photos to iNaturalist.ca. All observations made within a 55 km radius of Regina during the challenge will automatically be uploaded to the CNC 2021: Regina and Area project."

Marsh Dash Results

February 25, 2013

Marsh Dash 2013 was a success! Thanks to all those folks who came out and participated. Extra thanks to Robb, Jeannette, Doug, Tom, Leah and all others who helped out with the event.

There were some great costumes out this year! 11 clues were given to the participants. Some reported the clues being more challenging this year, but points were awarded to at least one team for each clue – although there were three clues where no team received full points. All the more challenging for the teams!

We had a new winner this year! Congratulations to the team Field of Streams – Erin Fieger, Ramona Clarke, Brenda Fieger, Barb Dean, Jim Elliott, Cheryl Verheist, and Aadon Fieger! They solved 17 points worth of clues and were the only team to finish in their allowable time, saving them from the docked points that the late teams all suffered!

A close second was the team of Leah Japp, Heather Leask, and Robb and Jeanette Taylor, with 16 points. Congratulations to the winners and all participants!

Other teams this year included: We run fast, The Marshals, Compass Quacks, the Individuals and the Whelan’s.

The proceeds from this race go to Friends of Wascana Marsh. The Friends received a cheque for $250 – thanks everyone!
